MONCQ (founded 2010) provides music management, bookings but most of all the recording and publishing of musical artworks.
Founder Richard Halmans is both a creative mind as well as a businessman. A rare combination. After studying Business Economics at 's-Hertogenbosch University (NL), he paid himself through a study Creative Photography at the Academy of Fine Arts (Mol, BE). Being a music addict from the age of 7 and having played in several bands during his schooldays (formed 'MONCQ' and 'ExiS' in the late '80-s), the love for music was always there, as well as the interest in architecture and design in the broadest sense. In 2006 Halmans joins a small Dutch foundation of which he also became member of the board and supports the careers of musicians from the Sinti community in The Netherlands. He provided a.o. management and A&R, being able to gain lots of experience in managing artists and groups while also being responsible for productions, sleeve designs, photography, publicity and what not. Four years later his lifetime dream of becoming an independent record producer and –label began to take form and evolve into something which would become MONCQ (Records). MONCQ started with internationally well-known and respected artists from the “Jazz Manouche/Gipsy Jazz/Swing” scene (pioneers such as Paulus Schäfer, Johnny & Mozes Rosenberg and Prisor Jazz Band) and is now expanding into JAZZ. MONCQ is specialized in the Jazz Manouche / Gipsy Jazz genre with the goal to expand this genre and creating music without boundaries, for all those who love JAZZ and especially Jazz Manouche / Gipsy Jazz-Swing, but most of all good music. Together with sound engineers Jody Schulte and Paul van Vaals, MONCQ is dedicated to go only for the best results, becoming the home of the finest JAZZ (Manouche / Gipsy Jazz) worldwide.
MONCQ stands for ‘always being a work-in-progress, full devotion on every project'.
